MYHA aims to offer young female hockey players opportunities to compete at the level that is commensurate with their development and desired commitment as a hockey player, from beginner to college bound, in a community that fosters camaraderie, a lifetime love of the game, and outstanding sportsmanship. MYHA and its board is committed to growing the club in order to offer the breadth of programs needed to achieve its mission.
MYHA has long been a strong supporter of girls' hockey in the region and is proud of the large number of girls who have gone through the program, including those who have gone on to college and Olympic careers. In the 2020-2021 season, MYHA had over 175 girls playing on its various teams, including Girls and Co-ed Travel, Select, House League, and the Mites and Atoms programs.
MYHA girls have matriculated to the top hockey programs in the area and the country, including Washington Pride, Team Maryland, and numerous college prep schools. Other girls have chosen to stay with our very competitive Tier 2 CBHL Girls Hockey Program where we have proudly won many CBHL Regular Season and Playoff Banners. You can see our alumni playing for D1 and D3 colleges around the country. Jessica Lutz, a former MYHA player (and Washington Pride alumna), played for Switzerland in the 2014 Winter Olympics; Haley Skarupa, also an MYHA player and Washington Pride alumna, was a member of the 2018 US Women’s Gold Medal Olympic team.
We are proud of our winning record, but even more proud of our focus on skills development, sportsmanship, and a great team experience. Winning isn’t everything; we are dedicated to the mission of growing girls hockey, not just at our club, but throughout the area. We value every girl who is part of our program, from the novice instructional skater to the future Olympian. In 2014, Montgomery Youth Hockey announced a partnership with the national non-profit Positive Coaching Alliance, furthering our commitment to offering positive, character-building youth sports experiences that “develop better athletes, better people.”
With a dedicated staff of trained coaches and plenty of dedicated ice time at Rockville Ice Arena and Cabin John Ice Rink, we are able to give every player ample ice time in the form of skills clinics, practices, scrimmages and games. Many of our girls participate in Pride Futures, DC Selects, high school or private girls school teams and other tournament teams, in addition to playing for MYHA.
