About Us

History

Montgomery Youth Hockey Association (MYHA), formerly known as the Wheaton Ice Hockey Club, has been in operation since 1963.  Until 2022, MYHA was known as the Blue Devils.  In 2022, the club was renamed as the Ice Devils.

We are the largest ice hockey club in the area and one of the largest ice hockey Clubs on the East Coast. We are a private, nonprofit organization; we receive no funding from, and have no affiliation with, Montgomery County.  Our organization -- coaches, managers, and administrators -- is heavily dependent upon volunteers.  Our Club operates multiple ice hockey programs: Instructional, 6U, 8U, Coed House (Recreational), Girls Travel (Competitive) and Coed Travel (Competitive).  We are members of the Chesapeake Bay Hockey League (CBHL) and the Atlantic Hockey Federation League (AHF/AGHF).

MYHA Mission

Montgomery Youth Hockey Association will be a leader of youth sports organizations in Maryland, DC and Virginia.  MYHA provides a fun, safe and properly supervised atmosphere that emphasizes skill development, mastery of ice hockey and sportsmanship.

MYHA accomplishes this mission by ensuring that all of our players, regardless of skill, gender, age or level of engagement have a positive environment in which to enjoy the game.  Our volunteer coaches serve as positive role models who educate our players with sound, age-appropriate instruction.

Respect of the game, opponents, officials, teammates and self is the core of the MYHA organization.  MYHA strives to build a strong community of players, coaches and families with the goal of developing the young athletes into the best athletes and people they can be.

Hockey Director

Rob Keegan is the Club’s full-time Hockey Director. Rob has a very strong hockey background, not to mention a love for the game and the kids who play it.  He played youth hockey in suburban Chicago and went on to play at a prep school in Massachusetts and at Penn State University, where he was twice named his league’s most valuable player.  He played a year of minor-league hockey and had a tryout with the Pittsburgh Penguins.    Rob oversees the club’s total hockey operations.  He assembles and trains our coaching staff, develops curricula for each level in each program, provides professional skating and skill instruction for everyone in the Club and monitors the progress of our teams and coaches throughout the season.  Rob has been with MYHA since 1997.

Girls Hockey Director

Coach Bazzone grew up playing and loving hockey in Pittsburgh and then in Tampa. As one of the top players in the Southeast District, he left home to play prep hockey at Deerfield Academy in Massachusetts. He then attended George Washington University in Washington D.C. where he studied finance.

After graduating, Coach Bazzone volunteered as a coach for the Rooftop Hockey Program at Medstar Capitals Iceplex. It did not take long for Coach Bazzone to realize his true passion was developing and mentoring youth athletes. Since 2011, he has been dedicated to exploring and refining new methods to accelerate the growth of youth and junior players while building up a successful business training many of the top players in the area. In addition, over the past three seasons, Coach Bazzone was a head coach for Team Maryland at the pee-wee, bantam, and midget age levels.
