MYHA Community Service Initiative

The MYHA Board of Directors has voted to pilot a community service program for all players in the organization. For the 2022-2023 season the service program is recommended, with successful implementation the program will become required for all teams in 2023 and beyond. The rationale behind the generation for the program is to strengthen our communities and to continue to build our athletes into the best possible people. MYHA hockey is important in the formation of over 1000 young student-athletes annually and we’d like to bring these amazing young men and women out to assist others.

In an effort to stabilize the workload of the coaches and team managers, MYHA hopes that a parent volunteer for each team will serve as the lead.

While there is great value in drives, the organization prefers an active volunteer project to allow the athletes and families to engage in the fulfilling work that comes with serving others. Our goal is to increase the role of MYHA Youth within our communities, and to introduce the people unfamiliar with who we are as an organization to learn about the outstanding community we have built, all while building strong team bonds.

The MYHA Board and Volunteer Subcommittee will be available for any discussion, ideas and help that you may ask for.

We ask that each team take time to distribute this message through TeamSnap and for coaches to work with Team Managers to see if there are any players or families that have a connection to a cause or other opportunities. This will also allow the teams to tailor the experiences to be age and developmentally appropriate.

The ideas of how we can represent our youth within the communities are endless and teams are welcomed to find causes close to their specific group of players and families. Often when the service is close to the heart of those serving, the deeper the joy for all involved

We thank you for taking the time to read the e-mail and consider how we might help MYHA athletes and families go in to the community to serve others. We’re looking forward to hearing ideas and supporting causes that may already be close to the hearts of those in the community. Please let us know if you have any questions.
