6U-8U Girls Jamboree

6U/8U Girls Jamboree FAQ

What is this team?

The 8U Girls Jamboree team is made up of girls who play in the 6U/8U MYHA House teams. Currently, MYHA has Girls’ Travel teams from 10U and up and this team is a way for the girls to start getting a taste of girls hockey and buildIng a sense of camaraderie with their teammates.

Who runs the team?

We rely on parent volunteers to both manage and coach the team, with support from MYHA and Coach Mike Bazzone (Director of Girls Hockey). This can change from year to year, but we communicate mostly via TeamSnap (set up by MYHA) and we can be reached using the contact button at the right of the page.

Is this in addition to the House team we signed up for or instead of?

This is in addition to the House team. Your player cannot participate in the Jamboree if she is not a part of a House team.

Is my player expected to commit to every game?

No, but the more games she plays in, the more fun she’ll have!

How much playing time does each player get?

Playing time is handled equitably since MYHA is focused on developing our players and they don’t develop if they don’t play. The girls rotate on shifts and every girl gets put on when her shift is up.

Is there a cost associated with participating in the jamboree team?

Players must purchase a custom Jamboree jersey (listing player name and number) and sock kit. There are two tournaments we like to attend every year that have costs attached to them. Otherwise, the games we play are free of charge because we use donated ice time to have them.

What age groups participate in the jamboree team?

Girls who are eligible for 6U and 8U can participate in this team.

Are there additional practices?

We will let you know if we are able to secure ice time for girls team practices, but typically, there are not scheduled practices.

Do I need to buy a separate kit?

We put in a custom order for jerseys at the start of each season and the girls are required to wear their team jerseys during our jamboree games. We also can lend out extra jerseys for players that come later in the season, once the order window has closed.

Who do they play against?

Other Girls 8U teams in the area like the Howard Huskies, Potomac Lady Patriots, Rooftop Hockey, St James, etc.

How far away are the games?

Most games are in surrounding counties in Maryland and Virginia. Some tournaments will be as far as Baltimore, Ocean City, and Pennsylvania.
